5th Sunday in the Month    Two services are held - 8.00 am Holy Communion and 10.00 am Holy Communion - both alternating between St.Matthews and St.Edmunds. Look out for specific details in the appropriate magazine and service sheets.

 8.00 am Holy Communion

This is a traditional sevice of Holy Communion using the Book of Common Prayer.  Sometimes there is a short sermon but there is no any music. The Service lasts about 30 minutes.

One regular worshipper said,  ‘I like hearing the beautiful poetic language and spending time quietly reflecting on it, before the rest of the world has woken up.’

10.00 am Parish Communion

A modern language Holy Communion service (Common Worship), with hymns and a short address and a warm and welcoming service for all ages. Children are welcome and special activity sheets are provided.

The service lasts about an hour and is followed by coffee in the nearby church hall.

10.00 am All Age Service

A lively inclusive service for people of all ages and for those unfamiliar with church, this may be good place to start. Children are especially welcome.

A variety of formats are used and a small music group helps to lead the service.

The service lasts about 45 minutes and is followed by coffee in the nearby church hall and activities for children.

10.00 am Service of the Word

The Service of the Word has the scriptures central to its theme.  It is a service that allows for variation in the format but the bible readings and sermon are core within a common structure that involves preparation, prayers, an affirmation of faith and hymns.

11.15 am Mattins

A traditional service from the Book of Common Prayer led by the choir. The service is not now often conducted in parish churches and is a relaxing yet stimulating late morning worship.

The service lasts about an hour

11.15 am Sung Eucharist

A Book of Common Prayer (1662) communion service.

6.30 pm Evensong

This traditional service from the Book of Common Prayer combines the best of Cranmer's poetic words with hymns, anthem, sermon and prayers. The service lasts about one hour

Once a month Choral Evensong includes more musical content, and there is no sermon.
